“UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage” took place Saturday inside the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones successfully defended his crown against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the night’s featured attraction.
Josh Koscheck made quick work of former welterweight champ Matt Hughes in the card’s co-main event.
Here are the official results and play-by-play from tonight’s action:

James Te Huna Defeated Ricardo Romero via KO (Punches) at :47 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Te Huna drops him with a right just moments into their scrap, but Romero survives momentarily. Romero telegraphs another takedown attempt and Te Huna unloads some short rights. It’s over.
Takeya Mizugaki Defeated Cole Escovedo via TKO (Strikes) at 4:30 in the 2ndRound
1stRound: Not much action to start the scrap. Mizugaki has him pressed against the cage and finally lands a nice right hand. He gets Escovedo to the ground for a second. Escovedo pulls guard, but the Japanese fighter gets up. Mizugaki trying to clinch, but Escovedo is connecting on nice short elbows and knees to the body. Mizugaki hits him with two solid body shots to end the round. Very close round, Escovedo, 10-9.
2ndRound: Escovedo tags him with a head kick, but Mizugaki counters with a body shot. Mizugaki charges forward and gets him with a nice combo. Mizugaki floors him with a left and chooses not to follow Escovedo to the canvas. Mizugaki is unloading in the clinch. Escovedo is game, but Mizugaki is landing countless shots to the dome. Very efficient striking by Mizugaki. It’s a wrap.
Junior Assuncao Defeated Eddie Yagin via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27)
1stRound: A whole lot of nothing to start the contest. Assuncao finally secures a takedown. A little ground-and-pound has Yagin’s face bloodied. They work their way back to their feet. Assuncao plants the Filipino on his back and rides out the round. Assuncao, 10-9.
2ndRound: Crowd is getting anxious. Assuncao shoots for a takedown and has him pressed against the fence. Assuncao almost gets caught in a guillotine choke as he takes Yagin down. Nothing comes of it. Not the most thrilling round in MMA history. Assuncao, 10-9.
3rdRound: Yagin scores a brief takedown. Assuncao goes for a takedown and Yagin tries a standing arm-in guillotine submission to no avail. Assuncao now in top position and firing off shots. Yagin is eating countless strikes on the mat. Assuncao, 10-9 and sweeps the fight 30-27.

Tim Boetsch Defeated Nick Ring via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
1stRound: Ring catches a kick and tries to secure a takedown. Ring held him down for a second and landed some knees to his shoulder. Boetsch takes the center of the cage, while Ring circles on the outside. Ring, 10-9.
2ndRound: Boetsch tags him with a right and an uppercut. Boetsch scores a flash knock down with a quick right, but Ring gets right back up. Boetsch slams him to the mat. He goes for a guillotine, but Ring survives and is now in top position. They get to their feet and Boetsch is unloading. Ring looks hurt. Boetsch tries a kimura as the horn sounds. Boetsch, 10-9.
3rdRound: Boetsch is the fresher fighter and takes the center of the Octagon. He connects on a left hook and a knee to the sternum. Boetsch has him pressed against the cage and connects on some short shots in the clinch. Boetsch trips Ring, but no action and they get stood up. Boetsch judo throws him to the mat and lands in side control. He’s unloading elbows and punches. That toss just won him the fight. Boetsch, 10-9 and rallies to win the bout, 29-28.
Tony Ferguson Defeated Aaron Riley via TKO (Doctor’s Stoppage – Broken Jaw) at 5:00 in the 1stRound
1stRound: A barrage of leg kicks from both lightweights to start the bout. Ferguson tags him with a big left uppercut and follows up with numerous shots to the face and body. Riley survives, but is bloodied. Ferguson, 10-9.
The fight is called because Riley’s jaw is broken. It was the uppercut that did it.

Nate Diaz Defeated Takanori Gomi via Submission (Armbar) at 4:27 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Diaz throwing punches in bunches, as expected. It appeared as though Diaz scored a flash knockdown, but it could have been a slip. He nails Gomi with a big left hook. Gomi connects on a body shot. Diaz is going to town and getting anything he wants. Gomi drops to the canvas and Diaz takes his back. They get back up for a moment and Gomi puts him on the ground. Diaz goes for a triangle choke submission and transitions to an armbar. Gomi cries uncle.
Travis Browne Defeated Rob Broughton via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
1stRound: Browne lands a couple of leg kicks. Browne connects on a big overhand right. Broughton having issues closing the distance. Broughton eats a nasty left hook and dodges a flying knee. Browne takes him down and immediately advances to full mount as the round ends. Browne, 10-9.
2ndRound: Not much action to start the middle stanza, but Browne is clearly in control. Browne unloads some shots in the clinch. Browne going to town on Broughton’s lead leg. Browne gets another easy takedown and lands in full mount. Browne gets in some good ground-and-pound as the horn blares. Browne, 10-9.
3rdRound: Although he’s losing, Broughton is the fresher fighter entering the final round. Browne eats a big right. Browne gets him to the mat with the greatest of ease. The crowd is getting restless. Broughton attempts a kimura, but nothing comes of it. Browne, 10-9 and wins the uneventful bout, 30-27.
Mark Hunt Defeated Ben Rothwell via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-27, 30-27)
1stRound: Hunt connects on a one-two combo. Rothwell gets an easy takedown and moves to full guard. Hunt manages to scramble back up without damage. Hunt stuffs two takedown attempts. Hunt scoring with his hands and Rothwell’s right eye is bloodied. Rothwell gets another takedown and inflicts some punishment. Rothwell, 10-9.
2ndRound: Both are breathing very heavily. Hunt lands a big leg kick. Hunt takes him down and unleashing hammer-fists. Rothwell looks exhausted. Hunt attempts an armbar as the horn sounds. Hunt, 10-9.
3rdRound: Rothwell came into this bout looking better physically than he ever has, but he can barely get off his stool. Hunt tagging him with bombs. Rothwell is GASSED. Hunt takes him down for some reason, even though Rothwell can’t even stand. The ref stand them up. Rothwell doing everything he can to get a takedown to ride out the fight. Hunt gets him to the canvas and ends up in side control. He’s doing just enough to keep the position. Hunt, 10-9 and should win the bout, 29-28.
Josh Koscheck Defeated Matt Hughes via KO (Strikes) at 4:59 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Hughes working the left jab quite a bit, a la Georges St-Pierre. Koscheck tags him with a left. Hughes counters with another left and right hook. Koscheck tries a single-leg takedown, but gets denied. He landed some shots in the clinch, but Hughes gets him with a knee. Koscheck unloading unanswered right hands, as Hughes falls to the canvas. Kos continuing to lay the lumber and the fight is stopped just before the horn sounds. Hughes was out cold.
* Hughes says he’s not retiring, but will ask the UFC to put him “on the shelf.” FYI – He has no fights remaining on his contract.
Jon Jones Defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:14 in the 4thRound (Jones retains UFC light heavyweight title)
1stRound: Jones comes out in an awkward spider-type crawl and grabs Rampage and presses him against the cage. The opener was unusual, but it eliminated the opportunity for Rampage to use his hands. Jones kneeing his thighs and they finally separate. Jones lands a spinning-back elbow. Rampage having trouble closing the distance. Jones just misses with a roundhouse kick. Rampage misses on several punches as the round ends. Jones, 10-9.
2ndRound: Rampage catches a kick, as they clinch against the fence. Jones misses on another spinning-back elbow. Rampage is in the center of the cage, while Jones circles on the outside. Jones tags him with a spinning-back kick. Jones pulls guard and attempts a triangle as the round ends. Jones, 10-9.
3rdRound: Rampage coming with a better offense to start the round. He lands some leg kicks of his own, but Jones gets the takedown. Jones immediately moves to full mount with three minutes left in the stanza. Rampage manages to get free, but is bleeding above his right eye. Jones front kicks him in the face, a la Anderson Silva. Jones starting to punish the challengers legs. Rampage misses badly on two big bombs. Jones, 10-9. Jones tosses Rampage off of him after the horn, drawing some boos.
4thRound: Jones connects on a left hook and Rampage appears wobbled. Jones misses on a head kick. Jones gets him to the ground and takes his back. Jones locks in a rear-naked choke. Game. Set. Match, Jones.
