UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (Pictured) broke his right hand in the early moments of his fight against Demetrious Johnson, but that didn’t stop him from taking home a unanimous decision victory on Saturday night. Although Cruz passed on mentioning his busted mitt during the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White did it for him after the presser wrapped.
“You know one of the things I respect about the kid?” White asked. “He’s got a broken hand and had one the entire fight. Not only did he not stop fighting, he goes through an entire press conference and doesn’t say [expletive] about it.
“I said to him, ‘You’re not gonna talk about your broken hand? He said, ‘What’s the point? I’m gonna get it done and I’ll be back.'”
White expressed great admiration for Cruz’s toughness and said the 135-pound king will have his hand operated on this coming week. He is unsure when “The Dominator” will return to action or who his next opponent will be.
However, White suggested the front runner for next dibs is likely the winner of the UFC 139 bout between Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles.
Cruz owns an impressive 18-1 record and has successfully defended his throne against Joseph Benavidez, Scott Jorgensen, Urijah Faber and Johnson, respectively.
