Fighters Only Magazine is reporting the UFC is in the midst of arranging a lightweight title fight to headline UFC 105. Following BJ Penn’s UFC 101 victory over Kenny Florian, UFC president Dana White made it clear the Hawaiian’s next scrap would be against Diego Sanchez and it appears the two will meet in the U.K.
According to the magazine, nothing has been finalized, however Sanchez’ camp has received the offer for the 5Round affair. No word as to whether Penn has already agreed to take on “The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner, although Penn sensed “The Nightmare” was on his horizon.
“It’s gonna happen, hopefully within the next two, two-and-a-half months,” Penn recently told the Hawaii Tribune regarding his appointment to fight Sanchez. “He’s really good; he’s really explosive. He’s shown that he has some knockout power and he’s a very good grappler. He’s very hungry; he’s shown that he wants to be a champion someday. This is an important fight.”
If agreed upon, this would be Sanchez’ first UFC title shot in any of the three weight classes he has competed in. His TUF finale foe, Kenny Florian, has already notched a pair of unsuccessful title attempts.
It was reported on Saturday that England’s own Michael Bisping will be making his return to the Octagon and will likely be the fight immediately preceding this lightweight title fight. On the heels of his devastating knockout loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 100, the Brit will be taking on former middleweight superstar Denis Kang in a pivotal 185-pound clash.
UFC 105 is slated to pop off on November 14th inside the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. It is believed the show will be made available via same-day tape-delay on Spike TV.
Here are the fighters rumored to be competing in the night’s event:
Roli Delgado vs. Andre Winner
DaMarques Johnson vs. Peter Sobotta
Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley
James Wilks vs. Matt Brown
Dan Hardy vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang
