The injury bug strikes again. On Tuesday afternoon, UFC president Dana White announced welterweight king Georges St-Pierre (Pictured) had suffered an injury that will force him out of his UFC 137 title bout against Carlos Condit.
“I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad [expletive] everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!! #oneofthosedays,” White tweeted just moments ago. “It’s GSP’S knee. We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It’s looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still early to tell tho.”
St-Pierre hurt his knee during a training session in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is currently awaiting a doctor’s exam.
The card’s previous co-main event between BJ Penn and Nick Diaz has been promoted to the show’s featured attraction. The 170-pounders will meet in a three-round affair.
This marks the second switcheroo the card’s main event has experienced. St-Pierre was originally slated to defend his throne against Diaz, but the former Strikeforce champion was demoted from the scrap after failing to attend back-to-back press conferences to promote their highly-anticipated pay-per-view broadcast.
Condit was originally scheduled to face Penn, but jumped at the opportunity to challenge for the crown when his phone rang. Diaz was subsequently reassigned to fight the Hawaiian.
No word on which preliminary bout will get bumped to the PPV broadcast.
UFC 137 takes place October 29th inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
