UFC welterweight Georges St-Pierre

Once again we’ve gathered the best MMA news from the baddest websites on the ‘net so that 5thRound nation won’t miss a beat! Make sure to check out the links after the jump.

The big news of the week was Georges St-Pierre’s injury, which forced the welterweight champ to pull out of his title bout with Carlos Condit at UFC 137 next weekend.

With the late withdrawal, BJ Penn’s pivotal 170-pound bout with Nick Diaz was promoted to the card’s main event.

Enough talk, onto this past week’s top news:

Chris Leben: The Cagepotato Retrospective Interview [CagePotato]

“It’s funny, the guys at my gym know more about what’s going on in the sport from me. Half the time I hear about who I’m fighting from some random fight-school member that read it on a blog somewhere.”

TUF Enough: Interview with Roy Nelson [MMAMania]

“I feel standing, like I think I’ve stood up with some of the best heavyweights in the world. I stood up with Junior [dos Santos] so like, I think I might regress for this fight and go back to my roots, go back to my first five or six wins were all submissions. Maybe I’ll regress in the chain of being an MMA fighter.”

“Punkass” from TapouT Interview [TheFightNerd]

“This weekend, The Fight Nerd was at New York Comic Con 2011, and unfortunately for me, MMA related things were hard to come by due to a variety of reasons. However, fate intervened while I was wandering around the floor, as I ran into Dan Caldwell AKA Punkass from The TapouT crew!”

Matt Lindland Says Chael Sonnen Would Finish Anderson Silva [BleacherReport]

“I’ve got a game plan for Chael to finish him before the end of the third round. So, yeah it’ll look similar to their first encounter.”

The Lost Victims of the Injury Bug [MMAConvert]

“Everyone groans and exclaims when the big names get injured – there’s still weeping to be heard over Georges St. Pierre’s forced exit from UFC 137, and sobs can be heard all around the world over the news that Shane Carwin and Rich Franklin are both on ice over back- and shoulder injuries.”

MMAterial Facts [MMAPayout]

“Welcome to this edition of MMAterial Facts, where we feature articles from around the MMA community.”

Anderson Silva: Only I can talk about my fights… [Lowkick]

“Only I can talk about my fights, my plans and my career,” Silva tweeted. “I’m not on physical therapy and once I define my next fight with the UFC, I will let you know.”

Georges St-Pierre out of UFC 137 [NBC Sports]

“Georges St-Pierre has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 137 title fight against Carlos Condit due to a knee injury suffered in training on Tuesday, NBCSports.com has confirmed with St-Pierre’s head trainer Firas Zahabi.”

Safe to issue K-1 their last rites? [FightOpinion]

“The idea of K-1 running a show outside of Japan without Japanese television support sounded absurd on its face. The fact that people bought into it as a grand plan were the same ones who thought that PRIDE running shows in Las Vegas was all about going global.”

Brandon Vera calls Thiago Silva a “juice monkey” [MMAFighting]

“I think he was just celebrating, but now that I know that he was a juice monkey, for sure, I think he’s a piece of sh**.”

Frank Mir says Brock Lesnar would beat Alistair Overeem [Five Ounces of Pain]

“Though once heated rivals, the feud between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar has tapered off over the last few years due to new professional challenges for both, Lesnar’s health-related inactivity, and, as it turns out, the feelings never being all that hard to begin with.”

Mirko Cro Cop will die trying to return to form [MiddleEasy]

“I want to feel that feeling when the referee raises my hand. I want to take that shower — it’s a special moment for me, taking that shower after my victory, and I’m so happy. I go back to the hotel and the next day I’m so happy. I don’t even think about [money] until the UFC bookkeeper calls me a few days later to transfer the money.”
