UFC president Dana White revealed two significant pieces of information to FoxSports.com on Monday night. First of all, UFC 142 will indeed take place in Brazil. Secondly, featherweight king Jose Aldo (Pictured) will defend his throne against Chad Mendes in the January 14th event.
“Pound-for-pound superstar Jose Aldo will return home to fight in Brazil for the first time since 2007 when he defends his UFC featherweight title against unbeaten powerhouse Chad Mendes,” UFC president White stated. “Aldo hasn’t lost in over five years, but Mendes has yet to lose in MMA, and after clearing out all the contenders put in his way, he believes he has what it takes to beat the champion.”
Aldo owns an impressive 20-1 professional record and is perfect through his last 13 scraps. The 25-year-old posted a unanimous decision victory over Kenny Florian earlier this month at UFC 136.
Mendes holds a perfect 11-0 resume and earned his top contender spot by hanging a convincing decision win over Rani Yahya at UFC 133 in August.
The HSBC Arena in Rio de Jenairo is expected to host the fiesta.
