UFC 137 and UFC 138 has come and gone, but “UFC on FOX 1” is on the horizon. The world’s premier mixed martial arts organization is set to make their broadcast debut on November 12th.

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will defend his title for the first time against heavy-handed Brazilian Junior dos Santos in the one-hour special.

Enough talk, onto this past week’s top news:

UFC 137: Payout Perspective [MMAPayout]

“The top of this card was hurt first by Diaz’s no-shows, the card reshuffle and GSP’s injury. The UFC first touted UFC 137 as being Champion vs. Champion. Despite the removal of GSP from the main event, the UFC indicated that the show was a sell-out. After GSP’s injury.”

Bas Rutten on his new show “Punk Payback” [TheFightNerd]

“The Fight Nerd spoke with Bas Rutten, whose new show on FUEL TV, “Punk Payback” debuts tonight, which is a show that has the former UFC Heavyweight Champ and King of Pancrase breaking down real-life self-defense situations caught on tape.”

Dan Severn Still Wants Coleman and Shamrock, Will Likely Retire Next Year [CagePotato]

“I want specific fights right now. I’ve had some verbal offers but haven’t had the opportunity to bring some of these matches to life. Two particular matches I’m still interested are ones with Mark Coleman and Ken Shamrock.”

Exclusive Interview with UFC 138’s Mark Munoz [MMAMania]

“I’ll take a submission victory or a knockout. I will take that for sure. I don’t see this fight going five rounds at all. I think we’ll see a guys that come in there swinging and there’s just gonna be fireworks happening. We fight to finish and not just score points so I don’t see this fight going to the end of the fifth round at all.”

Chris Leben Must Adapt to Survive [BleacherReport]

“After enduring two hard fought rounds in the main event against Mark Munoz at UFC 138, a doctor’s stoppage forced “The Crippler” out of the bout after he was complaining about a cut he received above his eye.”

Yoshihiro Akiyama Cuts Down to 170 [MMAConvert]

“Many have called for Yoshihiro Akiyama to drop down to welterweight ever since he debuted in the UFC with a narrow victory over Alan Belcher. After losing his last three, Akiyama finally decided to go for it.”

Jake Ellenberger Not Impressed by Nick Diaz [Lowkick]

“His slap-box game… I would like to fight Diaz. Ideally I’d love to fight Diaz, his little patty-cake game he plays, man if he played that with me I’d put him down for sure, 100 per cent. If you did that where I come from, you get your ass whooped.”

Mixed signals of sportsmanship in MMA [FightOpinion]

“The fire in the eyes of two opponents standing toe-to-toe and flipping through their arsenal of attacks to win a fight is the last place for amiability. Of course, it’s only just a sport and once the fight ends.”

UFC Eying 2 UK Shows in 2012 [MMAFighting]

“While some in those parts have claimed they’ve been neglected, UFC executives say they have already planned another event for the UK in 2012, and possibly a second.”

Fedor vs. Monson getting PPV treatment [Five Ounces of Pain]

“M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Monson has secured pay-per-view rights with iN Demand, DirecTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN through Integrated.”

BJ Penn in new Assassin’s Creed commercial [MiddleEasy]

“I’m not sure what I’ll learn from this experience, but a few more adventures like these and I’ll be well on my way to saving $65.00 for the new Assassins Creed game. Here’s the promo staring BJ Penn.”

Mandy Moore makes predictions for UFC on FOX [Fightline]

“The UFC makes its broadcast television debut next Saturday, November 12, from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Cain Velasquez defends his UFC heavyweight title against Junior Dos Santos.”
