UFC Middleweight Mark Munoz

After Mark Munoz (Pictured) scored a 2ndRound TKO victory over Chris Leben at UFC 138, MMA’s Mr. Nice Guy politely called for a shot at Anderson Silva’s throne. Munoz’s post-fight celebratory speech was a far cry from what Chael Sonnen directed towards “The Spider” following UFC 136, but that’s because he and the baddest 185-pounder in bare feet go way back.

“I’ve paid my dues in this weight class,” Munoz stated. “I think I deserve a title shot. Anderson Silva is by far the best pound-for-pound fighter. I give him all the respect and honor.

“I consider him a friend, but I think I deserve a title shot.”

Munoz violently bumped his record to 12-2 on Saturday and is perfect through his last four Octagon scraps. “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” has also won seven out of his last eight bouts, with his lone blemish during his torrid run coming against Yushin Okami, who just lost his championship bout to Silva.

While the 33-year-old’s resume is just as worthy as anyone’s, he might still have to stand in line behind Sonnen. Outside of taking Silva into deep waters at UFC 117, Sonnen has also done a masterful job at promoting a rematch with the middleweight king.

Although UFC president Dana White has been noncommittal about arranging a mulligan between Silva and Sonnen, he previously admitted, “I’d be pretty [expletive] stupid if I don’t make that fight happen.”
