Although Mark Munoz and Chris Leben were scheduled to star in the first five-round non-title affair in Octagon history, Munoz and his vicious ground-and-pound attack decided to end things early. While both middleweights promised to unleash bombs at UFC 138, “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” was the one primarily laying the lumber.
Despite having a large gash above his left eye, Leben continued to charge forward, to the surprise of no one. However, safety comes first and it was determined after the 2ndRound that Leben’s vision was far too compromised to continue.
After collecting his fourth consecutive victory, Munoz politely requested a shot at middleweight king Anderson Silva’s title. During the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White took a ‘we’ll see’ approach regarding Silva’s next opponent.
UFC 138 took place Saturday inside the LG Arena in Birmingham, England.
