Although most of the hoopla surrounding FOX’s mixed martial arts premiere is centered around featured fighters Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos, there will be one particular lightweight paying close attention to Saturday’s co-main event between Clay Guida and Ben Henderson.
Reigning 155-pound champion Frankie Edgar is expected to defend his throne against the winner of the Guida/Henderson contest when the UFC returns to Japan.
Clearly, the victor’s ability to leave the scrap unscathed will be key in making the February 26th appointment.
The Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan will host the show early Sunday morning in order to accommodate a traditional live broadcasting time in North American.
Guida and Henderson’s alleged top contender shootout won’t air during FOX’s hour-long television broadcast, however it will stream live on the UFC’s Facebook page. Saturday’s preliminary bouts are scheduled to start at approximately 4:45PM ET/1:45PM PT.
Edgar was last seen posting a dramatic comeback TKO victory over Gray Maynard at UFC 136. The October victory marked his second successful title defense.
