The Octagon’s primetime television debut has come and gone, as “UFC on FOX” saw a new heavyweight champion get crowned. Junior dos Santos (Pictured) needed only 64 seconds to dethrone Cain Velasquez to capture the sport’s most coveted belt.
A visibly tentative Velasquez never utilized his much-talked about wrestling skills to neutralize the challenger’s one-punch knockout power.
Now a perfect 8-0 inside the Octagon, dos Santos will wait and see who gets first crack at his freshly-minted hardware.
Former champ Brock Lesnar will take on Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 on December 30th to determined the No. 1 contender to “Cigano’s” crown. Although he didn’t want to pick a winner, dos Santos believes Lesnar will be his next opponent.
“UFC on FOX” took place inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. UFC president Dana White estimated that 60 million people in Brazil watched dos Santos knockout Velasquez.
