Despite hosting a major show this Saturday in San Jose, California, the UFC took the time to announce a middleweight bout between Rousimar Palhares and Mike Massenzio for their January 14th event in Brazil.
Palhares returns to his homeland after posting a unanimous decision victory over Dan Miller there at UFC 134 in August. “Toquinho” will be riding a two-fight winning streak into the 185-pound affair.
Massenzio was last seen taking a decision win over Steve Cantwell at UFC 136. He’s alternated between wins and losses over his last four fights.
The UFC is still determining which city and venue will host the fiesta, however Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena is the current frontrunner to win the bid.
A featherweight title bout between champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes headlines the pay-per-view broadcast.
Here is the card’s updated roster:
Stanislav Nedkov vs. Fabio Maldonado
Mike Massenzio vs. Rousimar Palhares
Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Erick Silva
Sam Stout vs. Thiago Tavares
Terry Etim vs. Edson Barboza
Vitor Belfort vs. Anthony Johnson
Chad Mendes vs. Jose Aldo (UFC Featherweight Champion)
