After suffering only the seventh loss of his MMA career, Matt Hughes wants one more fight before he retires. Following the loss to Thiago Alves this past Saturday, Hughes told everyone, “I’ve got one more fight in me. That’s Matt Serra. My wife wants it, I want it, and all these fans want it.”
With 43 wins to his name, Hughes only wants to fight Matt Serra and he’s willing to wait to get him. Even though he took the fight with Alves on short notice, he told all of his fans on his website, “no matter what happens in this fight, I’ve got [Matt] Serra next.”
It was a fight that was supposed to take place last December at UFC 79, but a back injury forced then champion Matt Serra to pull out.
Serra has since lost his Welterweight title back to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 83 and is healing up some of the injuries that he suffered during the setback.
Hughes will no doubt be inducted into the UFC Hall-of-Fame as soon as his MMA career is over, but he would love nothing more than to end that career with a victory over his nemesis, Matt Serra.
