The MMA announcements from the Orient just won’t stop this Monday morning. Shortly after the UFC confirmed their return to Japan, Dream and ONE Fighting Championship reported they have entered into a mutually exclusive partnership where the two Asian promotions will exchange athletes and co-promote events.
Fighter swapping is expected to take place immediately. The first co-promoted show is tentatively scheduled for March 31st at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and will likely be dubbed “ONE FC/Dream in Singapore.”
“Dream and ONE Fighting Championship will work together to lead the sport of MMA in Asia to a better future,” said Dream event producer Keiichi Sasahara. “Dream has some of the best fighters in the world and we also have deep experience of putting on world-class events.
“ONE Fighting Championship has the largest media platform in Asia and many other assets. I see many great synergies with this partnership. It is certainly a new era for everyone in Asian MMA.”
Dream is currently Japan’s only major mixed martial arts organization. The company launched in 2008 and has since held 19 events. Their next card, “Dream: Fight for Japan. How are you! New Year! 2011,″ takes place December 31st.
“ONE Fighting Championship: Champion vs. Champion” was held this past September and is the only show the organization has ever hosted. They currently have three cards scheduled for the upcoming year.
