After Monday’s announcement that WEC 43 had been moved to the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas the company wasted no time in announcing that WEC.tv newsletter subscribers interested in purchasing tickets for the show can begin as early as today at 11AM ET/8AM PT.
Tickets will then be made available to the general public the next day at 11AM ET/8AM PT. Prices range from $25 to $125 for a spot inside the 19,000-seat venue.
WEC 43 was initially slated for September 2nd at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio, however the organization abruptly rescheduled the card for October 10th.
The night’s final bout will feature an interim lightweight title bout between top contender Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson. It was reported that Henderson suffered a minor injury in training and that was the reason for the rescheduled event.
Cerrone holds a 10-1 professional record, however what’s more impressive is that although he’s a Muay Thai specialist, nine of his W’s have come via submission. His only blemish came in a controversial technical decision loss to champion Jaime Varner at WEC 38 this past January.
“He’s got an awesome ground game and he’s a superior wrestler,” Cerrone said of Henderson. “The only thing he lacks is his standup. I believe that I have what it takes to become champion. I know Ben well and like him, but when the cage door closes, I want to win that belt.”
Speaking of impressive records, Henderson holds a 9-1 mark, with his last two coming inside the WEC cages against Anthony Njokuani and most recently, Shane Roller. The former two-time NAIA collegiate wrestling All-American hasn’t lost an MMA fight since 2006.
“There are guys who get in the cage and you can see in their eyes that they’re a little bit overwhelmed by the whole thing,” Henderson said. “I don’t think I’ll be overwhelmed. I love Cerrone’s game and his ‘Terminator’ style. He just keeps coming forward. As far as standing up with him and trading some blows, I’d love to. Let’s go out there and have fun.”
You can catch all of the main bouts LIVE on Versus Network at 10PM ET/7PM PT.
