Just hours after DirecTV announced they were pulling Versus Network from their programing library, their digital rivals, DISH Network, quickly stepped up to offer all subscribers two free months of the edgy network. For you MMA fans, if you want to catch any WEC action and you’ve got DirecTV, you are S.O.L.

“Starting today, all new and existing customers can watch VERSUS through Dec. 2, 2009 on both the SD and HD channels – 151 and 151 HD, respectively,” DISH Network Corporate Communications Director Robin Zimmerman told MMAjunkie.com.

DirecTV was given until midnight on Tuesday to come to terms with Versus, however both sides were unable to finalize a deal. DISH gladly accepted their satellite programing counterparts’ decision, and parlayed that by offering two free months to capture additional subscribers.

When reached for comment, DirecTV officials referred outlets to the following generic statement:

“[Comcast] regularly tries to charge us amounts well in excess of what is fair and reasonable to carry the programming they own. Their reason is obvious: They want to stifle competition from DirecTV. Comcast’s unfair terms undermines DirecTV’s ability to offer our customers the best possible value. If we simply accept these terms, we would have to absorb the unreasonable costs Comcast wants to charge us, and in turn we will be forced to increase the rates our customers pay. We do not want this to happen. In fact, Comcast has forced us to remove Versus because we would not accept the terms they demanded.”

The WEC currently has two shows planned for the winter as WEC 43 is slated for October 10th in San Antonio, Texas and WEC 44 is scheduled to take place on November 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The question now is, how important is watching WEC action for you DirecTV customers?
