Although ‘UFC on XBox Live’ doesn’t officially launch until December 20th, we here at 5thRound.com had the opportunity to give the UFC’s new app a whirl last Saturday for UFC 140.
With more and more content being made available on-demand via streaming services like Hulu Plus, Netflix and several others, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has partnered up with XBox to penetrate a slightly different market.
Several fans were disappointed when the launch of the app was pushed back, as “UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida” was supposed to be the first event to hit the popular console’s marketplace.
‘UFC on XBox Live’ provides direct access to event previews, Countdown to UFC, press conferences, weigh-ins, interviews, workouts, interactive fight card with fight picks and more.
Through the app, fans can purchase events in either standard definition ($44.95) or in high-definition ($54.95). Since we got the hookup this past weekend, we obviously elected to go with the HD version of the show.
The first thing that popped out to us was the smooth and extremely clear picture quality. We hardly even noticed that we were streaming the event, as opposed to watching it on our satellite service.
If there was one drawback from the experience, the audio wasn’t quite up to par with the video, despite the fact our XBox was connected with an HDMI cable.
