Thanks to the injury bug, Jose Aldo (pictured) will be gifted an immediate rematch against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway.
According to MMAFighting.com, Aldo will replace injured Frankie Edgar and headline UFC 218 against the man who just TKO’d him in June to unify the 145-pound crown.
Aldo was initially slated to fight Ricardo Lamas on December 16, but didn’t hesitate to throw his name in the hat once Edgar bowed out. No word on what the UFC plans to do with Lamas, who many believed should have replaced Edgar for a crack at the crown.
Aldo is the most decorated featherweight champ in MMA history. However, “Scarface” has dropped two of his past three scraps, with both losses coming in convincing knockout fashion.
Conor McGregor ended his aura of invincibility in merely 13 seconds at UFC 193. It marked Aldo’s first loss in nine years.
Holloway, meanwhile, is arguably MMA’s hottest fighter having rattled off 11 straight victories en route to capturing the interim hardware. The Hawaiian’s last loss came at the hands of McGregor.
UFC 218 takes place December 2 inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
