John Dodson has been chirping all the livelong day that he’s the one that will finally dethrone reigning UFC flyweight king Demetrious Johnson (pictured).

He may have convinced himself he’ll leave the octagon with the belt wrapped around his waist Saturday at UFC 191, but not the Gambling Gods.

Dodson is a 3.5-1 underdog to avenge his 2013 defeat to Johnson. Johnson, meanwhile, checks in as a solid 5-1 odds-on favorite to post his seventh straight title defense.

MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas hosts the event.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Retires From UFChttp://www.5thRound.com/187800/antonio-rodrigo-nogueira-retires-from-ufc/ http://www.5thRound.com/187800/antonio-rodrigo-nogueira-retires-from-ufc/#comments Tue, 01 Sep 2015 18:21:01 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=187800 UFC Heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (pictured) has decided to call it a career. The 39-year-old Brazilian announced his retirement Tuesday from competitive fighting, but will work as an ambassador for the UFC.

“It is a great pleasure and an honor to continue my ties with the UFC,” Nogueira stated. “I always had the passion to follow the development of young athletes and I want to keep doing that. I want to help spread MMA around the world and give my contribution to the emergence and development of young talent. I appreciate the confidence that (UFC President) Dana White and (owners) Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta are banking on me, and I believe that with hard work we will achieve great results together. I know I can, and will, contribute to the growth of our sport outside the octagon.”

Following August’s decision defeat to Stefan Struve, marking Nogueira’s third straight loss and six of his past nine, UFC president Dana White said he was hoping “Big Nog” would hang up his gloves and accept a job with the UFC.

“‘Minotauro’ is a legend in MMA,” White stated. “He is respected by fighters and fans all over the world. It has been an honor to watch him compete and I am happy for his retirement. He will be a tremendous asset to the UFC, athletes and the sport as an ambassador. I can’t wait to work with him in this new chapter of his life.”

Nogueira leaves the game with a 34-10-1 (1 NC) record. He captured the interim UFC heavyweight title by submitting Tim Sylvia in 2008, but lost the manufactured belt in his next outing to Frank Mir.

UFC 194 just got a little hotter, thanks to “The Karate Hottie.” On Monday, it was announced Michelle Waterson (pictured) will face Tecia Torres in the December 12 event.

Waterson made her UFC debut in style by submitting Angela Magana in July. The former Invita FC strawweight champion is victorious in seven of her past eight outings.

Torres owns a perfect 6-0 professional record, but all of her wins have come via decision. She most recently beat Angela Hill in July at UFC 188.

UFC 194 features the highly-anticipated featherweight title unification bout between champion Jose Aldo and interim champ Conor McGregor.

MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada serves as host.

Here is the card’s current lineup:

Court McGee vs. Marcio Alexandre Jr.

Conor McGregor: Ronda Rousey And I Are Equalhttp://www.5thRound.com/187786/conor-mcgregor-ronda-rousey-and-i-are-equal/ http://www.5thRound.com/187786/conor-mcgregor-ronda-rousey-and-i-are-equal/#comments Mon, 31 Aug 2015 15:21:35 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=187786 UFC Conor McGregor

In the MMA world, nobody is a bigger superstar than reigning UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey. Nobody. However, if you were to ask Conor McGregor (pictured), he is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the “Rowdy” one.

“I believe, in the male spectrum, that I’m dominating the game – 100 hundred percent,” McGregor recently said in a TUF 22 promo. “However, in the female aspect, Ronda is a two-time ESPY winner now. She’s a dominant champion. It’s very hard for her because she is so dominant.

“There’s a lot of questions about me. I am thankful for all the questions that are being asked about me because that generates interest, which in turn generates revenue. Ronda’s just so dominant. She’s slaughtering these women ruthlessly.

“I suppose maybe that’s why you feel that way, but really, I feel both of us are equal at the top of the game. She is a special athlete and I’m happy to be up there with Ronda at the top of the game.”

While some might think McGregor is out of his mind – not just for saying this, but also for his latest ridiculous tattoo – it’s not as though McGregor doesn’t have the numbers to back up his claim.

Unconfirmed reports have McGregor pulling in 825,000 pay-per-view buys at UFC 189 when he captured the vacant interim featherweight title by beating Chad Mendes. If that number proves true, it’s one of the biggest the UFC has garnered in quite some time.

Rousey topped that by reportedly nabbing over 900,000 earlier this month at UFC 190 when she blasted Bethe Correia in merely 34 seconds. If that numbers is correct, then it’s the largest show the UFC has hosted in the last three years.

The UFC is a privately-owned company, so they never release PPV numbers like in boxing.

Sure, McGregor’s name is attached to UFC 189’s success, but who knows how many of those buys came early when the UFC was heavily hyping his scrap against reigning featherweight champ Jose Aldo. Aldo pulled out at 11th hour with a broken/bruised rib and McGregor still reaped the benefits of those buys when Mendes was announced as his replacement.

Regardless, McGregor is a massive MMA draw. As big as Rousey, though?

On the heels of the UFC’s reported biggest pay-per-view in three years headlined by Ronda Rousey, the octagon looks to follow it up with Saturday’s UFC 191 event.

Reigning flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson’s (pictured) dominance in the division hasn’t translated to big PPV numbers. Will his much-anticipated rematch with John Dodson change that?

Probably not…

Regardless, the UFC has a show to promote. “Countdown to UFC 191: Johnson vs. Dodson II” premiered Sunday, but if you missed it because you were busy watching Kanye ramble about nonsense and Miley be pure nonsense at the VMAs, we’ve got your back.

Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm Moved To UFC 193 After Robbie Lawler Breaks Thumbhttp://www.5thRound.com/187755/ronda-rousey-vs-holly-holm-moved-to-ufc-193-after-robbie-lawler-brakes-thumb/ http://www.5thRound.com/187755/ronda-rousey-vs-holly-holm-moved-to-ufc-193-after-robbie-lawler-brakes-thumb/#comments Sat, 29 Aug 2015 04:08:54 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=187755 UFC Ronda Rousey

Anytime, any where, any place. And that’s why UFC president Dana White loves him some Ronda Rousey (pictured).

On Friday night’s edition of ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” White phoned in to announce Rousey will now defend her throne against Holly Holm on November 14 instead of January 2 after welterweight champion Robbie Lawler suffered a thumb injury that forced him out of UFC 193.

UFC 193 goes down inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, which holds 56,000 fans at capacity. Given Rousey’s star power, it was an easy choice to pick the “Rowdy” one as Lawler’s replacement.

“Ronda Rousey will fight Holly Holm November 14,” White stated. “She is the main event at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia and she will break the all-time attendance record for the sport of mixed martial arts. Obviously, Ronda Rousey was huge for us down in Brazil. She was well received there, it was just a phenomenal event. It did very well on pay-per-view here in the United States and she’s obviously a huge star for us.”

Lawler was slated to defend his throne against former interim champ Carlos Condit. No word on what the UFC now intends to do with Condit.

UFC 195 takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was slated to co-headline the gig against Claudia Gadelha.

It is unknown if the 115-pounders will now get top billing or if the UFC will look to give someone else the main marquee.

Here is UFC 193’s updated lineup:

Anthony Perosh vs. Gian Villante

Steve Kennedy vs. Richard Walsh

Kyle Noke vs. Peter Sobotta

Ricardo Abreu vs. Daniel Kelly

Akbarh Arreola vs. Jake Matthews

Stefan Struve vs. Jared Rosholt

Michael Bisping vs. Robert Whittaker

Mark Hunt vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva

Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey (UFC bantamweight champion)

Travis Browne Reinstated By UFC After ‘Inconclusive’ Findings Of Domestic Violencehttp://www.5thRound.com/187744/travis-browne-reinstated-by-ufc-after-inconclusive-findings-of-domestic-violence/ http://www.5thRound.com/187744/travis-browne-reinstated-by-ufc-after-inconclusive-findings-of-domestic-violence/#comments Sat, 29 Aug 2015 02:08:09 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=187744 UFC Travis Browne

Travis Browne’s wife is a liar – at least an inconclusive liar after a former FBI agent of 25 years looked into domestic violence accusations involving the heavyweight.

“UFC announced today that an investigation into allegations of domestic violence against heavyweight Travis Browne is now complete,” the UFC expressed in Friday’s statement. “Conducted by a former FBI agent with more than 25 years of experience, the seven-week investigation included interviews with multiple subjects associated with the principals, as well as the principals themselves. The investigation found inconclusive evidence to support claims of alleged domestic violence involving Browne, and inconclusive evidence that Browne had violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy.

“As a result, UFC has lifted Browne’s temporary suspension and anticipates him returning to competition in the coming months. UFC takes allegations of domestic violence very seriously, and they will be investigated for their validity. If proven true with facts, it will result in swift action on our part.”

In July, Jenna Reneé Webb, who at the time was believed to be Browne’s ex-girlfriend but may actually be his wife, posted damaging pictures on Instagram insinuating he had abused her.

Browne has been radio silent since the post, but his camp has cried innocence o his behalf from the jump.

Browne, currently the UFC’s #5 heavyweight, was scheduled to appear during UFC International Fight Week in July, but was pulled at the last minute after Webb’s accusations.

“Hapa” was last seen getting TKO’d by Andrei Arlovski at UFC 187 in May.

Brendan Schaub Turning Into Ronda Rousey’s Bitter Ex-Boyfriendhttp://www.5thRound.com/187710/brendan-schaub-turning-into-ronda-rouseys-bitter-ex-boyfriend/ http://www.5thRound.com/187710/brendan-schaub-turning-into-ronda-rouseys-bitter-ex-boyfriend/#comments Fri, 28 Aug 2015 16:14:30 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=187710 UFC Brendan Schaub

Ronda Rousey and fellow UFC star Brendan Schaub (pictured) have each taken the high road since their breakup. However, with recent comments made on two separate podcasts, it appears Schaub is now taking MMA fans down a different path – not necessarily the low road, but down bitter ex-boyfriend boulevard.

Earlier this month, Schaub was on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and said he “did her a favor” by no longer being Rousey’s main squeeze. The heavyweight claimed Rousey needs a man who will “take a backseat” and say yes to everything she wants because she’s already surrounded herself with people who “worship her and go ‘yes, yes, that’s a great idea.'”

Schaub admitted he wasn’t the man for the job, because he is too much of a man.

Rogan quickly shut the conversation down because Rousey wasn’t there to “defend herself.”

Well, Schaub started the Rousey conversation right back up on his own podcast, “The Fighter and The Kid.” Only this time, Schaub decided to put Rousey’s rumored new boyfriend, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, on blast, as well.

“It’s tough when you’re like, ‘Oh, don’t be a do-nothing bitch’ and you hate on [Floyd] Mayweather, and then your boyfriend’s over here beating the s**t out of his wife. Not to mention, he’s still married. So it’s tough when you’re a role model,” Schaub stated.

The UFC currently has Browne sitting in the bullpen after Jenna Reneé Webb, who was first reported to be Browne’s ex-girlfriend but apparently appears to actually be his wife, accused him of domestic violence with several damaging pictures on Instagram.

The UFC won’t make a decision on Browne until the incident is “thoroughly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.”

Rousey has made no bones about her despise for Floyd Mayweather and his propensity for beating the women in his life. Rousey’s latest jab came after she topped the boxer for this year’s “Best Fighter” ESPY by saying, “I can’t help but really say that, I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once.”

If Browne did in fact assault his wife, it would be highly hypocritical of Rousey to be dating her Glendale Fighting Club teammate. Regardless, it’s tough for Schaub to come out looking clean when he’s airing his ex-girl’s dirty laundry.

It might be best for “Big Brown” to keep his big mouth shut on all things Ronda Rousey. Anything negative Schaub says about the UFC’s golden girl, he now becomes “that guy” given their history, and nobody wants that label.

On the flipside, if this were Jerry Springer, how great would a Schaub vs. Browne rematch be? I can see the headline now, “Love Triangle To Be Settled In The Octagon.”

Your move, Dana White…
