It’s finally D-Day for Bethe Correia, according to reigning UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (pictured).

Rousey has been a steady 16-1 odd-on favorite to steamroll the chatty Brazilian Saturday at UFC 190, and unless for some reason people start to believe Correia will serve up an upset special against the most dominant fighter in MMA, that’s where Rousey’s line will stay.

Correia remains a 8.5-1 underdog. According to Correia, that’s the best bet in town.

HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil hosts the festivities.

‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey Dedicates UFC 190 Fight To Late Roddy Piperhttp://www.5thRound.com/186740/rowdy-ronda-rousey-dedicates-ufc-190-fight-to-late-roddy-piper/ http://www.5thRound.com/186740/rowdy-ronda-rousey-dedicates-ufc-190-fight-to-late-roddy-piper/#comments Sat, 01 Aug 2015 04:46:29 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=186740 WWERowdyRoddyPiper

As if reigning UFC bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey needed any extra motivation to blast Bethe Correia Saturday at UFC 190…

Shortly after reports surfaced Friday that professional wrestling icon “Rowdy” Roddy Pipper abruptly passed away at the age of 61 from cardiac arrest, Rousey took to Instagram to promise to make Piper proud for allowing her to use his nickname when she started her MMA career.

“Thank you for the name…. And so much more…. Will do it justice and do you proud tomorrow…. This one’s for you Roddy….,” Rousey wrote with the above image.

Now, if Reebok was smart, they would make Piper’s iconic “Hot Rod” t-shirt but have “Ronda” written in the same font. Reebok has taken a lot of heat for their generic UFC uniforms, and this move could go a long way in winning over MMA fans.

After all, Reebok boasted about “customization” during their UFC fashion show earlier this month.

Who knows, perhaps Rousey will slap on Piper’s signature sleeper hold (better known in MMA as the rear-naked choke) to beat Correia tomorrow in Brazil.

Bethe Correia Convinced She’ll Beat Ronda Rousey At UFC 190, Has She Convinced You?http://www.5thRound.com/186713/bethe-correia-convinced-shell-beat-ronda-rousey-at-ufc-190-has-she-convinced-you/ http://www.5thRound.com/186713/bethe-correia-convinced-shell-beat-ronda-rousey-at-ufc-190-has-she-convinced-you/#comments Fri, 31 Jul 2015 16:38:50 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=186713 UFC Bethe Correia

Somebody needs to tell Bethe Correia (pictured) that she is a whopping 8-1 underdog against reigning UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey, because she’s certainly not acting like it.

Correia is talking and walking like she has access to top secret information that Rousey’s previous 10 opponents (Miesha Tate twice) weren’t privy to. The chatty Brazilian believes she has cracked the code to dethroning the UFC’s golden girl.

Following Thursday’s UFC 190 media day, Correia marched towards Rousey for their face-off. Not only did she stare directly into Rousey’s red hot laser beam eyes, but she dared to smack talk “Rowdy” just inches from her face.

To Rousey’s credit, she stood there like a stone cold assassin and didn’t even blink.

Regardless, nobody has acted this confident against the only women’s 135-pound champ the UFC has ever known. At least nobody who is contractually obligated to step into the octagon against the armbar bandit.

Nobody on this side of sanity believes Correia will serve up an upset special on Saturday, not even her fellow Brazilians who have bombarded Rousey with nothing but love at every UFC 190 junket this week.

At 32 years of age and owning a perfect 9-0 professional record, it’s not as though Correia is some random chick off the street. She has the credentials to stand opposite Rousey for the belt, but where is this extra bravado coming from?

Seven of Correia’s wins have come from the judges’ scorecards, while only Tate has lasted past the first round against Rousey. If Correia has discovered the magic formula to dethroning Rousey, she better unveil it quickly at UFC 190 because chances are she has less than five minutes to pull the rabbit out of her hat.

Everybody thinks Correia is crazy for thinking she can beat Rousey, and maybe she is crazy. Crazy like a fox.

It will cost you only $59.95 to see for yourself.

Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Facing Must-Win At UFC 190http://www.5thRound.com/186683/mauricio-shogun-rua-facing-must-win-at-ufc-190/ http://www.5thRound.com/186683/mauricio-shogun-rua-facing-must-win-at-ufc-190/#comments Thu, 30 Jul 2015 17:46:46 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=186683 UFC Mauricio Shogun Rua

As the old adage goes, “All good things must come to an end.” In the sporting world, rarely does the end come with an athlete leaving on the top of his game while hoisting the championship trophy.

In fact, it typically ends too late with a past-his-prime athlete getting dragged from their sanctuary while kicking and screaming for just one more go.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (pictured) is staring that fate dead in the eyes. Prior to joining the UFC in 2007, Rua was considered as one of the world’s best 205-pounders, perhaps even the top dog.

While he did hold the UFC light heavyweight title for a hot minute, things haven’t quite panned out for the legendary Brazilian in the big leagues – particularly of late.

Rua has gone just 6-8 in the UFC. He has dropped four of his last five fights, including two straight. Three of his losses during this current skid have come via finish.

While 33 might be considered the tail-end of an athlete’s prime in other sports, Rua is an old 33 given the wars he’s been through during his decorated MMA career.

Rua faces Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Saturday at UFC 190, and while he hasn’t admitted it publicly, the scrap is essentially a must-win. Little Nog is 39 and hasn’t been seen since getting put to sleep by Anthony Johnson last July. If Shogun can’t blast Nogueira, then it’s clear he’s got nothing left in the chamber.

Jan Blachowicz just doesn’t bring the same sizzle as Jimi Manuwa, so the UFC has decided to make a change. On Thursday, it was announced Manuwa will replace Blachowicz to fight former light heavyweight top contender Anthony Johnson (pictured) at UFC 191.

Blachowicz is expected to remain in the September 5 event against a different opponent.

Johnson is looking to bounce back from May’s devastating submission loss to Daniel Cormier for the vacant light heavyweight title. “Rumble” had rattled off nine straight wins prior to getting tapped out.

Manuwa rebounded from the lone loss of his career by beating Blachowicz in April. He was TKO’d by Alexander Gustafsson prior to posting a decision win over Blachowicz.

Either MGM Grand Garden Arena or Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada will hosts the gig.

Here is the show’s updated lineup:

Francisco Rivera vs. John Lineker

Paige VanZant vs. Alex Chambers

Antony Johnson vs. Jimi Manuwa

Frank Mir vs. Andrei Arlovski

John Dodson vs. Demetrious Johnson (UFC flyweight champion)

UFC vs. Wanderlei Silva Drama Drags Into Courthttp://www.5thRound.com/186678/ufc-vs-wanderlei-silva-drama-drags-into-court/ http://www.5thRound.com/186678/ufc-vs-wanderlei-silva-drama-drags-into-court/#comments Wed, 29 Jul 2015 23:26:27 +0000 http://www.5thRound.com/?p=186678 UFC Wanderlei Silva

For the UFC, Wanderlei Silva (pictured) is like the ex-girlfriend that just won’t go away, so now they need assistance from the legal system. The latest drama between the two has been taken new heights – the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas.

Last week, the now-retired Silva claimed he had “proof” that the UFC “fixes fights.” Late Tuesday night, the UFC quietly fired back by filing a lawsuit against Silva for making “false and defamatory statements.”

After an illustrious career in PrideFC, Silva finally re-joined the UFC in 2007 but was a shell of himself at that point. “The Axe Murderer” went just 4-5 under the UFC banner, and then the drama began.

Silva was slated to fight Chael Sonnen at UFC 175 in July 2014, but dodged a random drug test by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Silva later admitted to taking diuretics and anti-inflammatories to treat a wrist injury.

UFC doctors prescribed Silva anti-inflammatory medication following his on-set brawl with Sonnen on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3.” On his own accord, Silva proceeded to seek out diuretics to minimize water retention.

Diuretics are commonly classified as a banned substance due to their use as a masking agent to prevent detection of other illegal substances.

Silva has denied ever taking any performance-enhancing drugs.

The NAC then issued Silva a lifetime ban and $70,000 fine, which the Nevada courts overturned earlier this year. Regardless, Silva announced his retirement after his initial punishment was levied. He bashed the UFC for disrespect on his way out.

The UFC has been on Silva’s hit list ever since. His latest shot has him in some serious hot water, unless, of course, the Brazilian can produce the “proof” of the UFC fixing fights that he claims to have access to.

Oh, Dear Lord. Please show mercy on Bethe Correia Saturday at UFC 190, because the Gambling Gods sure aren’t giving her any shot against reining bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (pictured).

Rousey is currently a whopping 16-1 odds-on favorite to steamroll the chatty Correia in front of her own hometown. Correia, meanwhile, checks in as a 8.5-1 longshot.

This should be a one-sided blood bath. The question is, is it worth your $59.95 pay-per-view dollars to watch one fight that won’t likely last beyond the first round?
