As a father of quite a few kids (don't even ask, lol) I find it a little disgusting to allow kids to get into this sport at a young age. I firmly agree that a child would learn and benifit from taking martial arts, even cross training in multiple martial arts would be great, but to actively compete in MMA seems a little wrong to me. How does everyone else feel about this?

| I think that if kids want to get into mma, they should get into the other aspects of mma that don't involve the striking. They should study karate, BJJ, wrestling, etc. |

Right, and never go full contact until they are a legal adult. I want my son to get into martial arts. I want him to study as many as he would like, but I won't let him get into a ring until he's off of my insurance LOL!!!! |

| Xtreme Couture has a kids class, i think a lot of the "major" mma camps have a kids class. |

| Allowing a kid to go full contact is crazy. He/she wouldn't be able to read by the time they graduate college. I wouldn't mind my kids (when I have them) to learn MMA, but I would have them learn BJJ, Wrestling, boxing and muay thai techniques first. Save the head damage for your adult years. |

| kids shouldn't be able to go full contact in mma, i agree. I think some kids would take it as now I'm tough and can beat up anyone. Kids don't have the mindset to understand that the sport is about competition, not just the violent aspects. I think kids should train in bjj and karate, let them learn true discipline and honor and give them the fundamentals. Once they reach a certain age, then i think full contact is ok. I have a daughter and I don't let her go full contact. But again to each his own. |

I agree. I started training Karate when I was 6. I learned the discipline first. |

| thanks for the post tapout. i think kids need the discipline first. they need to know the background on karate and why it is so important. it builds up the kids self esteem, it teaches them honor, respect and to fight fairly. i think once the kid has those elements down, then they can look at going full contact. the kids see real mma fights and they think they can just go ahead and beat up someone just by watching the moves. my daughter is going to know all the basic fundamentals as i mentioned above and the coolness of good sportsmanship. |

| i hope that sportsmanship doesn't get lost with the new generation of mma fighters. the respect level that we see from 90% of the fighters is awesome, especially since they are trying to take each other's heads off. |

| i agree nut sometimes the sportsmanship does get lost. There is a local gym here where I went and the dudes all cared about just trying to beat people up. so i left the place and found a much better gym where i can practice and spar with true warriors, people that love the sport and want to fight for respect and pride and sportsmanship and the love of pure competition. word. |
