I like the belt system that some other forums use. I think it shows the martial arts slant of the forum and gives an incentive for people to post more and bring more to the Forum........anyone else?????/

Like Sherdog does? That is cool, but at the same time, they give out belts for the amount of times you post, not how smart and knowledgable you actually are

It would be hard for a mod to go around reading all of the posts to decide who is and is not knowledgable. I think that the only way to do it would be to give belts by how much you post. I for one post alot, but if you've read most of my threads you will understand that I'm an idiot. So I'm going for quality over quantity, LOL

If everyone agrees on a belt system, I'm all for it. We implemented the "point system" with a reputation because reputations can be taken away whereas belts cannot. So if someone posts 1,000,000 times but is an absolute moron, he'd be a blackbelt. Where with our current system, any user could take away points for stupid comments.

Let us know!

Like the great Mr. Miyagi once said when asked what kind of belt he had:

"J.C. Penny $3.98, you like?"

I think that we should start rewarding each other points for good comments, finds or statements. That is how you weed out the quality posters from the quantity posters.

The problem with the rep system is that no one uses it. The only person that has gained rep here is G-Rush and that is because I gave it to him lol. No one really uses that. We could keep the rep system and include a belt system. I jsut think the belt system helps amke the sight uniquely Martial Arts oriented. Just my take.

And one thing that I do not like about the rep system is that just because someone disagree's with you, or does not like you for whatever reason, they can take away rep points. And that can go two ways, if someone is a complete ass, but he has a buddy that is one the forum that buddy can give him as many rep points as he wants. I guess neither system is perfect, I just think the belt system is more martial arts oriented!

Good point, I'll look into getting a belt system but I don't want to copy other forums. I'll keep you updated.

I came up with something a little bit sifferent so that if you were to go with a belt ranking system it wouldn't be the same as some of the other forums. How about we go with championship belts. And instead of using belt colors we could use different weight classes. We could have a belt for each of the different weight classes and use the weight class name under it.

it could be:

Feather weight: 400 posts
Light Weight: 1000 posts
Welter Weight: 1500 posts
Middle Wieght: 2000
Light HW: 5000
HW: 10000
P4P Champ: 15000 and more

Or whatever numbers you would work out. You could also use the Rep System for the belt instead of post count, but that might get a little ugly. Just my two cents!
