why did mike goldberg all of the sudden start talking about takedown percentages and sprawl percentages? who cares... you can't do stats like that in MMA, they don't matter.

why dont they matter? i thought it was interesting to see them stats. ive never saw em anywhere else in mma. they are just like stats in baseball or football. they show what a fighter does well, and how often he does it. i give it a thumbs up.

I also am not sold on the whole "MMA Stats" thing. The fact that Fitch has a 70% sprawl rate has no effect on him getting rocked by GSP twice. GSP's 80% takedown rate also doesn't mean much considering he wanted to stand for the bulk of the fight.

I agree with the TS. Hearing all those stats were distracting from the fight. The weird thing is I'd never heard an MMA stat before, then he keeps throwing them out during this fight. When were these compiled? Are they compiled for all fighters or just Fitch and GSP? I found it hard to believe Fitch's guard has "never been passed." GSP did it continually. If you want to talk stats do it before the fight or in between rounds (like in boxing), but don't ramble off a bunch of stats during the action.

I think that having stats is a good idea. Every sport has stats, that's how you measure how good you are against others. I hope that they have more of it in the future.

That stats are stupid. They don't take into consideration who the fighters have fought before. What if they go against a guy that has no takdown defense and he scores a bunch of takedowns that fight. that means that he is a good wrestler based on that one fight?
