i was reading the story about liddell wanting to fight until he's in his 40's and i don't buy it. his style doesn't allow for him to hang a long career as he's a brawler. i know he hasn't been ko'ed a lot, but look at wanderlei, he go ko'ed twice when nobody thought he could.

couture's style on the other hand always gives him a fighting chance. i don't know though.

i do wanna see that fight with anderson silva though.

The thing about liddell is he has never really shown if he has a good ground game. He(for the most part)has only needed to rely on his knockout power. The most he has used his ground game(until recently)was to avoid being taken down or submitted. I think he has the ability to throw his apponents off now, I think we will be seeing more of chuck's ground game. I think his ground ability with determine how much longer he can fight not to mention win fights.

Chuck doesnt need to use his ground game. Thats why he uses the sprawl n brawl style fighting, so he keeps the fight standing and always has that chance to end the fight with a touch of the fist. Why would he want to show his ground game? Chuck has been fighting long enough to learn how to fight on the ground. I think everyone watches this guy because he does the opposite. He stands and does everything to keep the other guy from taking him down, and feeds him a knuckle or two while he does it. I hope Chuck gets his title back, defends it against Rampage after he beats Wanderlei, goes on to fight Anderson Silva in the biggest MMA fight in HISTORY, and retires with that strap around his waste!

I would think that a ground game would wear him out especially as he ages. On the ground, aren't you exerting MUCH more energy that when standing and slugging? I would think every muscle would be straining either trying to improve your position or submit your opponent or defending against those moves.

I know people are going to say that Randy did it, but Chuck is no Randy. He doesn't train as hard, doesn't take care of his body the same way. That being said, He hasn't had to grind out a lot of wins in his career. They have been kinda easy and not too damaging to his body. 40-43 might be ok, but after that, I am not so sure.

Too bad for chuck that he isn't like 30 right now. He could help the sport blow up for so many more years, it's crazy. I give him another year or two, then he will be as good as Tito is now.

I love Chuck and I have been thinking this in the back of my mind for the last couple months? How much longer does he have?
After the loss to rampage, and then of course Keith J.
in my opinion Chuck has 2 or 3 years left

I think Couture is a much more seasoned athlete then Chuck and that is not by just looking ant the two of them, because Chuck is a strong athletic man as well but Randy C is a different beast and to say that because randy couture can do it so can I is being crazy and in practical ...because Randy Couture is just amazing, Did anyone see the Nat Geo thing on fighters where Couture held a Guotine for an entire minute as hard as he could and he actually had his muscle working slower ..he was counter reacting his muscles or some shit...it was amazing. couture is great and i love chuck but liddell is not going to be able to fight into his mid 40's.

I would go with 2-3 years at an "elite" level. After that, he will sink to where Tito is now. Now he can still compete for the belt, but in a few years, that party lifestyle that he has led will catch up to him. Couture is able to last because he has dedicated himself to MMA his entire life.
