“Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine” will be jumping off Saturday inside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Tonight’s festivities kick off at approximately 7PM ET/4PM PT.
Showtime Extreme broadcasts the card’s prelims at 8PM ET/PT. Showtime airs the night’s featured bouts at 10PM ET/PT.

Welterweight champ Nate Marquardt puts his strap on the line against Tarec Saffiedine in tonight’s featured attraction. Danile Cormier battles Dion Staring in the night’s co-featured fight.
Strikeforce will be closing its doors for good following the show.

Roger Gracie Defeated Anthony Smith via Submission (Arm Triangle Choke) at 3:16 in the 2ndRound
1stRound: Smith uses legkicks to avoid the takedown and keep a safe distance. Gracie is taking several legkicks and hasn’t thrown anything back at all. A head kick by Smith slaps Gracie’s face. 10-9 Smith.
2ndRound: Gracie is starting to open up his striking game as Smith’s eye is starting to bother him. Gracie gets Smith onto his back and moves into the full mount. Smith eats an elbow that opens a cut on his face and then submits to an arm triangle choke.
Pat Healy Defeated Kurt Holobaugh via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
1stRound: Both fighters starting out by testing each other’s chins. Holobaugh doesn’t look intimidated at all. Healy eats a hard leg kick, but eventually takes Holobaugh down. Holobaugh attempts to grab a leg, but Healy escapes. Healy gets on Holobaugh’s back and goes for a rear naked choke as the horn sounds. 10-9 Healy.
2ndRound: The start of the second is action packed once again as Healy and Holobaugh are swinging, but at the end Healy takes Holobaugh down and advances to his back. After several transitions, Healy remains in the top position. 10-9 Healy.
3rdRound: Holobaugh lands a pair of leg kicks and misses with a wild left hook. It looks like stamina is going to be an issue in the final round. Holobaugh goes for an arm bar attempt during a transition, but fails and ends up on his back. Holobaugh is working on an omoplata that Healy easily escapes. Healy locks in an arm triangle that looks tight, but Holobaugh is able to survive. 10-9 Healy.
Tim Kennedy Defeated Trevor Smith via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:36 in the 3rdRound
1stRound: Smith scores a takedown, but Kennedy fights to his feet. Kennedy clocks him with a right uppercut, though gets taken down for his efforts. Smith isn’t able to unleash much punishment on the canvas nor keep Kennedy there. Kennedy clobbers him again with another uppercut. Smith knees him in the groin and time is called. Game on. Smith is relentless with his takedown attempts. Close stanza to call. Smith, 10-9.
2ndRound: Kennedy turns the tables and plants Smith on his back. Kennedy is much more active on the mat, though. Smith looking to reverse, but Kennedy continues to plant elbows in his side. They get stood up for inactivity. Smith immediately shoots. End of another less than stellar round. Kennedy, 10-9.
3rdRound: Smith clinches him against the cage. Kennedy catches him with two uppercuts and a knee to the dome while Smith charges ahead for a takedown. Smith is a tad sloppy with his takedown attempt and Kennedy slaps on a guillotine choke. Smith is forced to cry uncle.
Ryan Couture Defeated K.J. Noons via Split Decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28)
1stRound: Couture working his leg kicks early. He nails Noons in the mug with a knee. Noons scores with a right hand. Noons continues to beat his opponent to the punch. Noons clobbers him with a one-two combination. Couture tags him with a spinning back-kick to the sternum. Noons fires back with a right and appears to have landed an illegal knee to his grounded opponent. Ref didn’t see it. Noons, 10-9.
2ndRound: Noons takes the center of the hexagon and very calculated with his attack. Noons takes an accidental headbutt and a cut has opened up on his forehead. Noons stuns him with a shot and pounces. Couture refuses to go down, but he’s dazed and confused. Noons continues his assault. Couture appears to have weathered the storm. Noons connects with a solid right. Couture is really opening up with some fancy kicks. Noons, 10-9.
3rdRound: Noons thwarts a takedown attempt, but eats a knee to the midsection for his troubles. Couture tags him with a right. Noons counters with a body shot. Noons hits him with another combo. Couture sensing he needs to make something happen. Noons, 10-9, and likely swept the table, 30-27.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza Defeated Ed Herman via Submission (Kimura) at 3:10 in the 1stRound
1stRound: After exchanging some shots, Jacare easily scores a takedown. Herman attempts a knee bar from off his back. Time is called and Herman is warned for throwing an upkick on his grounded opponent. They aren’t restarted on the ground, so Herman was rewarded for his illegal strike. Jacare nails him with a right hand. And now a left. Vicious front kick by the Brazilian. Jacare slams the UFC fighter to the canvas. Jacare slaps on a kimura and Herman is forced to tap.
Gegard Mousasi Defeated Mike Kyle via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:09 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Kyle is headhunting early. He lands some shots in the clinch, including a knee. Mousasi takes him down with the greatest of ease. Mousasi moves to full mount and has a minute to work. He’s giving Kyle the business. Kyle offers up his back. Mousasi locks in a rear-naked choke. It’s a wrap.
Josh Barnett Defeated Nandor Guelmino via Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 2:11 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Barnett immediately takes him down. He tries a leg lock, but Guelmino slips loose. Barnett remains draped all over him. Guelmino simply gives him the arm-triangle and Barnett willingly accepts it. That was too easy.
Daniel Cormier Defeated Dion Staring via TKO (Strikes) at 4:02 in the 2ndRound
1stRound: Cormier gets double under-hooks and slams him to the mat. He advances to side control. Staring fights free. Cormier smacks him with several violent bombs and takes him right back down. The wrestler ends up in side control again. Staring gets to his feet. Cormier takes him down again and lands in full mount. Cormier, 10-9.
2ndRound: Cormier trips him to the mat and methodically continues his attack. He unleashes several bombs to the dome. Staring is serving as the ultimate punching bag right now. Referee “Big John” McCarthy finally ends the mauling.
Tarec Saffiedine Defeated Nate Marquardt via Unanimous Decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46) (Saffiedine captures Strikeforce welterweight title)
1stRound: “Big John” McCarthy is the third man inside the hexagon. They exchange low kicks early. Saffiedine briefly knocked him down with a straight right. Marquardt’s lead leg is already bruised. They clinch against the cage. Crowd boos for lack of action. Saffiedine, 10-9.
2ndRound: Marquardt working hard for a takedown. He finally trips Saffiedine to the canvas. Saffiedine wiggles free, but the champ has him clinched against the fence. Marquardt nails him with a knee to the midsection. Saffiedine is punishing him with leg kicks. Saffiedine counters with a right hand. Saffiedine, 10-9.
3rdRound: Marquardt takes another kick to the thigh. He has Saffiedine clinched against the cage. Marquardt stuns him with a right hand. Surprising Marquardt can’t get this fight to the ground. Marquardt’s left quad is looking nasty. Saffiedine, 10-9.
4thRound: Saffiedine continues to target that lead leg. He tags Marquardt in the stomach with a knee. Marquardt’s leg continues to buckle after each kick. This is getting close to Jose Aldo on Urijah Faber, that thigh is purple. Another thunderous kick to Marquardt’s thigh. Saffiedine, 10-9.
5thRound: Marquardt is noticeably limping around the cage. These leg kicks are starting to hurt me now. Marquardt was a 3-to-1 favorite, BTW. They clinch against the cage, but Marquardt needs to separate and start swinging for the fences. Marquardt’s thigh looks even worse since he’s so pale. Saffiedine scores a takedown for good measure. Saffiedine, 10-9, and runs the table, 50-45.
