I think it’s safe to say Julianna Pena won’t be inviting UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to any holiday parties this year … or anytime soon.
Two days after calling Rousey a “pretentious and spoiled, rich brat,” Pena clarified her criticism of the UFC’s golden girl. Typically, clarifying equates to backpedaling after you realize you put your foot in your mouth. Pena, on the other hand, doused more fuel onto the fire.
“Whether Ronda has one penny or $10 million, the point that I was trying to draw there is that she has her nose in the air and she acts like she’s better than everyone else,” Pena said on Fox Sports 1’s post-fight show. “She went on the [‘The Ultimate Fighter 18′] being like, ‘I’m Team Real Mean versus Fake Nice.’ Well if she was so real, why didn’t she tell me that I didn’t deserve to breathe the same air as Shayna Baszler? Why didn’t see tell me that to my face instead of saying it on camera behind my back?
“It’s her arrogance. It’s the way she holds herself, like her s*** don’t stink. That was the point I was trying to make. It doesn’t have anything to do with money. It’s the way that she acts.”
Pena was riding high having become the first female to capture a six-figure UFC contract for steamrolling Jessica Rakoczy in the TUF 18 finals. “The Venezuelan Vixen” believes she’s one to three wins away from entering Rousey’s league.
If that’s the case, their pre-fight banter might surpass the Rousey vs. Miesha Tate hoopla entering UFC 168.
