All I can ask is, what took so long? Ronda Rousey (pictured) entered Saturday’s shootout against Miesha Tate with a perfect 7-0 professional record, with all of her wins coming via first round armbar.
The recipe was the same at UFC 168, but it took Rousey just over two rounds to complete it.
It was the second time the archenemies met, with Rousey initially tapping “Cupcake” out in March 2012 to capture the Strikeforce title. Tate promised a better showing in their highly-anticipated rematch, and she backed up her words.
Unfortunately for Tate, Rousey proved to be too tough once again.
The stoppage came at 58 seconds in the third round.
Perhaps the lasting image for the fans won’t be of Rousey catching Tate in another armbar, but of Rousey turning her back on her mortal enemy when Tate extended her hand to congratulate “Rowdy” on the win.
Rousey was heavily booed during her post-fight interview, while Tate received a standing ovation.
UFC 168 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
