Strawweights Make Debut on UFC Fighter Rankings

The polls are officially closed. Media members from across the globe once again voted on the UFC fighter rankings, but this time was different.

Strawweights made their debut on the UFC rankings.

Carla Esparza (pictured) became the inaugural champion in the UFC’s new division on Saturday by dominating Rose Namajunas. Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the division’s top contender after upsetting Claudia Gadelha.

Gadelha is ranked #2, followed by Jessica Penne. Namajunas and Tecia Torres round out the top five.

Namajunas owns just a 2-2 professional record and was steamrolled by Esparza, so it’s somewhat surprising the 22-year-old is rated so highly.

It doesn’t mean much now, but it would if it were July and Reebok’s sponsorship deal kicked in…
