Former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (pictured) said he couldn’t see out of his right eye after Rafael dos Anjos connected on his first punch. That means Pettis fought for nearly 25 minutes with a broken orbital bone in Saturday’s lopsided unanimous decision defeat at UFC 185.
On this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight,” it was announced the facial injury will keep Pettis out of action for at least six weeks. However, “Showtime” is hoping to get back in the cage sooner in hopes of reclaiming the throne.
Of course, Pettis is no stranger to injury. The talented 28-year-old has only performed five times since February 2012 because of various wounds.
Prior to Saturday’s upset special title defeat to dos Anjos, Pettis had rattled off five straight wins, with all but one of those victories ending before the final horn.
Pettis owns a 18-3 professional record.
