Daniel Cormier captured the vacant light heavyweight title Saturday by beating Anthony Johnson at UFC 187. Ryan Bader (pictured) was not impressed.
Cormier and Bader had to be separated at the UFC 187 post-fight press conference after Cormier was asked about his in-cage speech, which focused only on Jon Jones.
“Joe Rogan, no disrespect to you or the 16,000 people in this arena, but I have a message for one man – Jon Jones, get your s**t together. I’m waiting for you!” Cormier yelled before storming out of the octagon.
Bader, who was sitting feet away from the live action, thought Cormier should have turned his attention towards him, the man he was supposed to fight in June before Jones was stripped of his title which allowed Cormier to slide into Saturday’s title tilt with Johnson for the vacant crown.
“Jon jones get your [s**t] together????? @dc_mma you need to get your [s**t] together, you have a #1 contender right here waiting for you,” Bader tweeted immediately after Cormier’s speech.
The beef between Cormier and Bader really started to sizzle Wednesday when Cormier accused “Darth” of trying to cut the light heavyweight line just because he’s posted four straight wins.
Bader took exception and took to Twitter to vent.
“Ha! @dc_mma who the hell have you beat @ 205? No one in the top 10. Don’t come at me and say I haven’t beaten anyone,” Bader wrote on Wednesday. “.@dc_mma we were scheduled to fight twice and you got out of both, don’t let the @ufc bail you out of your first title defense against me.”
Cormier, despite being just days away from fighting for the belt, took time to respond to Bader.
“@ryanbader @ufc shut up bader , I’ve got a belt to win. Stay in ur lane only reason u get any pub is because I mention u.I begged to fight u,” Cormier countered.
“Apparently you begged to get out of them also. Good luck sat. If AJ doesn’t whoop your ass I will,” Bader responded.
Cormier turned off his Twitter after that exchange to focus on the task at hand. He decided to pick up where he left off after making eye contact with Bader at tonight’s post-fight presser.
That’s when all hell (almost) broke loose.
Lesson #1, Bader. Never get into a verbal battle with someone with a microphone when you don’t have one of your own.
Cormier takes Round 1.
