Now if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle black, only the kettle has never been busted for being black.
Over the weekend, a fan asked Donald Cerrone if a date had been set for his rematch against UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (pictured). Instead of offering up a generic “nothing official yet” answer, Cerrone made a not-so-indirect accusation that dos Anjos was on performance-enhancing drugs.
“Whenever he cycles off and can pass the blood test,” Cerrone responded.
Dos Anjos was clearly not reading his Twitter feed over the weekend, but he was certainly on there late Monday night.
“@Cowboycerrone Anthony and Diaz beat your ass did you see what I did to them i’ll make sure to give you the worst beating,” dos Anjos countered. “You’re probably drunk also that I’m a make you eat your words inside the cage @ufc.”
UFC president Dana White even jumped in on the Twitter beef by telling dos Anjos to calm down. Dos Anjos was having none of it.
“cowboy started this but I promise you i’m going to give him worst beating then The beating I give him already, the Brazilian wrote to his boss.”
Cerrone finally answered back by telling dos Anjos to pick a date, any date.
“look Frankenstein just sign a DATE,” Cerrone posted in closing.
Cerone’s initial response is hypocritical since dos Anjos has never flunked a drug test. Cerrone, on the other hand, tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a banned dietetic, following his WEC debut in 2007. Sure, that was a while ago, but it doesn’t mean it’s not true.
Dos Anjos is currently rehabbing the torn MCL he suffered prior to beating Anthony Pettis in March to capture the crown. He and Cerrone are expected to collide once his knee is healed in December.
Dos Anjos holds a 2013 unanimous decision victory over Cerrone.
