CM Punk Philip Brooks

Oh, dear lord. This whole “CM Punk” turns professional UFC fighter is inching closer to becoming a reality. The former WWE superstar was sitting cageside Saturday at UFC Fight Night 82 scouting his first potential opponent.

If Mickey Gall beat Michael Jackson in his UFC debut, then Gall would welcome Phil “CM Punk” Brooks into the world of real fighting in his next outing. Gall scored the scrap that everyone has been campaigning for by easily submitting Jackson in just 45 seconds.

If you’re wondering who the heck Gall is, he’s the welterweight UFC president Dana White found on his premiere episode of “Looking For A Fight.” After finishing off his first opponent with a rear-naked choke in his MMA debut, Gall knew White was sitting in the stands and requested to welcome Brooks to MMA.

White quickly signed Gall and promptly let him know the significance of his first fight in the big leagues.

It is unknown which weight class Brooks and Gall will battle at. Brooks is wavering between either competing at welterweight or middleweight.

Brooks signed with the UFC back in December 2015. At the time, White predicted he wouldn’t make his MMA debut until six months after joining Team Roufusport. Brooks’ debut has been delayed because he (depending upon who you ask) wasn’t improving at the pace UFC officials wanted, the UFC wasn’t able to locate the appropriate opponent, injuries, etc.

Brooks has never competed in a real mixed martial arts bout, but he has trained jiu jitsu extensively with the Gracies over the years. The 37-year-old said he will likely compete at middleweight, but welterweight is also on the table.

Although no official fight date has been set, it has been heavily rumored to be UFC 199 in June. However, Brooks has been pushing to make his debut at UFC 200 due to the show’s blockbuster nature.
