A massive payday in the form of a rematch with Ronda Rousey awaited Holly Holm. All the bantamweight champion had to do was get past Miesha Tate at UFC 196 on Saturday.
Yeah, about that…
Tate had other plans and decided to rain on the parade.
Holm appeared to take the opening round, but was dominated in the second stanza. Holm collected herself to collect the third and fourth frames, and appeared to be winning the fifth and final round until letting up for a split second.
After the second round, Holm figured out how to stuff all of Tate’s takedowns. She took her eye off the ball for just a moment and Tate took advantage for what proved to be the fight-ending takedown. Tate slapped on a rear-naked choke that rendered Holm unconscious on the canvas.
The official stoppage came at 3:30 in the fifth round.
UFC 196 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
