UFC Heavyweight Junior Dos Santos

Junior dos Santos was a heavy favorite coming into his UFC 117 bout with Roy Nelson and the Brazilian proved the Gambling Gods true, as he cruised to an impressive unanimous decision victory.

Although “Big Country” fought valiantly throughout the 15-minute affair, continuing to march forward despite eating practically everything dos Santos was serving (no pun intended). There wasn’t much he could do to keep the slugger at bay, as Junior consistently beat Nelson to the punch.

Nelson survived a 1stRound onslaught to remain one punch away from shocking the world, but his Hail Marry was never answered and the owner of MMA’s baddest mullet was forced to accept a (30-26 , 30-27 , 30-27) unanimous decision loss.

“This guy is tough, man. Incredible,” dos Santos said of Nelson’s granite chin. “My thoughts about him is, he trained a lot to be here. But I trained so much to be here too and this victory makes me happy.”

With the win, dos Santos moves on to face the winner of the championship bout between title holder Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. It’s a challenge the 12-1 stud gladly accepts.

“This victory now [gets me a] title shot.” dos Santos said of his top contender status. “So, I want to fight with hard guys now, I think harder than Roy. I think it’s Brock Lesnar or Cain Velasquez, but I’ll be ready.”
