After much speculation, it appears the lightweight scrap between Kenny Florian and Evan Dunham will in fact be going down. However, if you ask Heavy.com, their appointment has been promoted from UFC 126 to headline the yet-to-be announced “UFC: Fight for the Troops 2.”
Florian jumped the gun earlier last month by announcing on ESPN2’s MMA Live he had verbally agreed to meet Dunham in the February 5th card. His manager quickly pumped the breaks on that chatter by claiming nothing was confirmed, but they were working on something.
Florian holds a respectable 13-5 mark, but was accused by UFC president Dana White of choking in his last outing against Gray Maynard. With a shot at the 155-pound crown on the line, the Bostonian laid an absolute egg in front of his hometown for a unanimous decision loss at UFC 118.
White also had a lot to say about Dunham after his last contest. Only this time, the brash promoter unleashed his venom on two of the three judges sitting cage-side at UFC 119. Although it appeared the youngster had done enough against former champ Sean Sherk to maintain his undefeated status, Dunham was handed a highly controversial split decision defeat instead.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go his way that night and he has to settle for a practically perfect 11-1 record. Regardless, it’s always a good thing when the Boss Man is in your corner.
The event is expected to take place on January 22nd at Fort Hood in Kileen, Texas.
