Although former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres was to announce his UFC debut on tonight’s edition of ESPN2’s MMA Live, it appears MMAJunkie.com may have stolen his thunder. According to the website, the owner of MMA’s best mullet will make his big league debut against Antonio Banuelos at UFC 126.
Torres was perfect through his first 20 professional fights, then rattled off 17 in a row immediately after his run was stopped. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to ignite a third torrid run, as he dropped two in a row before winning his last fight against Charlie Valencia at WEC 51.
The 29-year-old is expected to headed up north to work with Firas Zahabi at his Tristar Gym in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre works extensively with Zahabi, in addition to famed coach Greg Jackson.
Banuelos was last seen posting a unanimous decision victory over Chad George on that same WEC 51 card. He owns an 18-6 overall record and rocks one of the coolest handlebar goatees in the game.
UFC 126 takes place February 5th inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here are the fighters rumored/expected to participate in the pay-per-view broadcast:
Antonio Banuelos vs. Miguel Torres
Jake Ellenberger vs. Jon Fitch
Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones
Forrest Griffin vs. Rich Franklin
Vitor Belfort vs. Anderson Silva (UFC Middleweight Champion)
