After a decent night of MMA action, UFC president Dana White awarded BJ Penn, Phil Davis, George Sotiropoulos and Joe Lauzon each an additional $80,000 for their special performances Saturday night at “UFC 123: Rampage vs. Machida.”
It took Penn all of 21 seconds to put Matt Hughes down inside The Palace in Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan. The abrupt KO victory not only earned the Hawaiian a much needed win, but “Knockout of the Night” honors as well.
Davis ensured his commission after securing a funky kimura in the 2ndRound of his light heavyweight contest against Tim Boetsch. Although his tapout victory left Octagon broadcasters at a loss for words, it earned the wrestler “Submission of the Night” nonetheless.
While their lightweight affair didn’t receive much fanfare, the scrap between Sotiropoulos and Lauzon was the contest most purists looked forward to. UFC brass felt the same way after witnessing the actual product, as they rewarded the 155-pounders with the extra cheddar for “Fight of the Night”.
Saturday’s show took place inside The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan.
